According to his Service Record, Marvin was born on August 18, 1898. Some sources list the date of his loss as October 9, 1924.

Marvin's disappearance was deemed "mysterious," and a Board of Investigation was held, reaching the conclusion that he probably "fell overboard and was accidentially drowned."
